‘Development is the catalyst for peace & prosperity’
-Sophia Nashokigwa, GSI Director-
Golden Sands Inc (GSI) is a consultancy firm which provides business services to clients seeking to invest in emerging markets, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa. We partner with clients from the private, public and non-profit sectors across the globe to identify potential project opportunities in a range of fields.
Respect, integrity and promoting the Sustainable Development Goals are just some of our guiding principles. Respect for GSI means maintaining client confidentiality and respecting all individuals we interact with in our line of work. Integrity for GSI means (1) maintaining high standards of performance (2) to be honest about our capacity and capabilities (3) to not compromise our values for special interest and (4) to have a positive impact on societies.
GSI bring specialised expertise to meet the particular needs of its clients. Since GSI does not believe in providing clients with a standardised business solution, we undertake in-depth feasibility studies on a wide range of projects including:
- Infrastructure development: Residential housing, office and retail outlets, hydropower energy, railway transportation networks and telecommunications, among others.
- Agriculture: Meat, poultry and rice farming as well vineyards, among others.
- Industrials: Mining with equitable social contracts, import and export, manufacturing industrials, among others.
The business consulting industry is very fragmented. Several large multinational companies dominate the industry while many smaller (and often more specialized) firms like GSI, occupy their market niches. With this is in mind, GSI stays on the pulse of new project opportunities in Africa in order to give its clients great competitive advantage. Additionally, GSI recognises that since investors often lack the broad range of knowledge and expertise required to identify project opportunities in a foreign market, there is a significant demand in the marketplace for consulting teams specialized in dealing with developing-country environments, related challenges, and business undercurrents.
GSI is established as a U.K. based limited company. Director, Sophia Nashokigwa, has extensive experience in international development in Africa and has held international civil servant positions with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Africa for several years. She graduated with an MA in International Relations and having lived and worked in Sub-Saharan Africa, has developed very strong regional expertise which strengthens the company’s research undertakings and gives the company a unique competitive advantage.
Desirability of Sub-Saharan African market
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has increased in Africa since 2003. Investors are starting to recognise the short and long term potential for economic growth, development and poverty reduction in Africa. According to Ernst & Young, since 2003 to 2011 Africa has witnessed 153% economic growth, even for non-oil exporting countries. Like China 30 years ago, Africa is at the brim of an economic take-off. Nonetheless, despite this surge in the African economy, more could be done since Africa’s FDI only accounts for 6% in 2012 of global FDI projects.
